getting ready...

wow, i cant believe that im leaving soon! all of my friends just came home from college and im leaving in a few weeks. im getting really excited though. i still have to weigh all of the stuff that ive bought so far so i can figure out how much i can bring in cloths. im starting to get the feeling that all of my cloths are going to have to go in my carry on :) this trip is going to be killer for me since im such an over packer. ill stay at a friends house overnight and bring three outfits and a backpack full of stuff. this time i can only bring 44 pounds in my carry on for 6 months :/ yikes! ill try to post my packing list soon so i can get some input as to things i forgot or that maybe i dont actually need to bring. i could use the help.

so i (finally) found out when im leaving! i go to nyc on jan 13th, fly to london the 14th, then fly to accra. i get there the 15th. then, ill be back home june 26th :) im super excited to have all of my flight info, but the long layovers in london sound painful. i cant believe it, it seems soo much more real now! if i could only find out about my placement... (hint to the afs people :D )

my first blog post (ever)

so... just so you all know, i have never written a blog before and i dont really know how its done so youll have to bear with me while i get the hang of this thing :) i guess i should probably tell you a little bit about me (even though its probably just my parents who care enough to read this). my name is sarah and i am from upstate new york. im a freshman in college and i decided to go to ghana (a little country in west africa) to do volunteer work and learn about their culture for six months. im leaving in january 2010 and ill be coming home the following june. im going through a really awesome organization called afs (you should really google them :) ) an ill be living with a host family while im there. also, i really dont like capital letters. or apostrophes. 
ps: i have some really awesome fishies at the bottom of the page who you can feed or make do tricks. theyre pretty darn sweet. just sayin... ;)
